Fool Proof Doughnuts with Cake Batter Glaze

Okay, these are seriously the EASIEST doughnuts in the world to make!  I mean, really, the dough comes from CANNED BISCUITS!  They make for a fast and tasty after-school snack, or maybe a quick sweet craving for yourself!  My family LOVED these and couldn't tell that they really came from a can!

You can dress up these doughnuts however you would like.  I have seen people dip both sides in butter and then dip them in cinnamon/sugar.  My favorite doughnut however, are the cake doughnuts.  If you are an avid follower of my blog, you know what a true cake batter lover I am.... so of course, I whipped up a cake batter glaze and topped mine with sprinkles.  They were heavenly!

CANNED BISCUIT DOUGHNUTS
  • canned biscuits
  • oil for frying
Cut holes out of the center of the biscuits, reserving them for later to make doughnut holes.

Heat up some oil in a large pot on the stove about half an inch deep. You want to heat it over medium to medium high heat.  Having them at this higher heat will help them absorb less oil because they will cook faster. You can test to see if the oil is ready by placing a doughnut hole in the oil.  You will know its ready when it immediately starts to boil and sizzle.

Place some of your doughnuts in the oil and begin to cook.

Once the bottom side starts to brown, flip it over and cook the other side.

Once cooked, remove from heat and set on a paper towel on a plate to help absorb some of the access oil.

Repeat for remaining doughnuts and doughnut holes.

(Doughnut recipe idea came from Southern Plate)

CAKE BATTER GLAZE:
  • powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup yellow cake mix
  • milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
Play around with the powered sugar and milk until you reach your desired consistency.  You can add more cake mix to get more cake flavor as well.

Top with sprinkles!

Enjoy!
